Hazlehurst Urban Sketching Group: A Year in Review

Updated: Nov 9

As we celebrate over a year of the Hazlehurst Urban Sketching Group, we reflect on the journey that’s brought together artists of all abilities to capture the unique character of our local spaces. Each month, led by resident artist Allison John, the group has explored new locations across Halton, creating art, memories, and friendships along the way. Below is a look back at each month’s adventure, where we invite you to relive our experiences and enjoy some of our favourite sketches.

October 2023

Our very first session was held right here at Hazlehurst Studios, where new faces joined us to kick off the group's journey.

November 2023

Sketchers captured the elegance of this historic church, taking in its architectural details and tranquil surroundings.

December 2023

The Catalyst Museum provided a blend of riverside views and industrial structures for a fascinating sketching session.

January 2024

We were inspired by the awe-inspiring Gaia Installation, sketching this breathtaking piece alongside the priory's storied ruins.

Back at the studio, our sketchers enjoyed the chance to reconnect and hone their skills in a familiar setting.

Our group captured the intricate beauty of this peaceful temple, highlighting its serene surroundings and unique architecture.

April 2024

A delightful session at Chi Cafe, where sketchers enjoyed capturing scenes from the park and the café’s friendly atmosphere.

May 2024

The canalside setting offered a mix of nature and architecture, making for an idyllic sketching day.

June 2024

Location: Runcorn Hill

Sketchers enjoyed the sweeping views and natural beauty of Runcorn Hill, which provided plenty of inspiration.

July 2024

Location: Hazlehurst Studios

Returning to Hazlehurst, we embraced the summer atmosphere with a relaxed sketching day at our home base.

Remembering John Bond

July 2024 was also a bittersweet month as we mourned the passing of our dear friend, John Bond. John’s warmth, humour, and talent enriched every session, and he was a beloved part of the Hazlehurst Urban Sketching Group. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit lives on in every stroke and sketch.

Looking Ahead
