Last week at Hazlehurst Studios, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting our Halloween Dungeons & Dragons Quest, and we’re thrilled to share that the programme was a great success! Young adventurers aged 12-16 joined us for two thrilling days filled with creativity, excitement, and imagination.
Inspired by Our Young People
This event was inspired by the marvellous young people we met over the summer holidays, who fundamentally changed how we do things at Hazlehurst Studios. Their feedback and enthusiasm have sparked our commitment to continually seek funding so we can keep providing engaging programmes for them. As they said, Hazlehurst is their favourite place, and we want to keep it that way!
Engaging Adventures
The programme featured engaging Halloween-themed D&D quests, expertly guided by Chris from Dawnstar Gaming. Participants navigated through eerie realms and tackled challenges that tested their wits and teamwork. We were continually impressed by the creativity and enthusiasm of our young adventurers!
Creative Crafting
In addition to the gameplay, participants had the opportunity to unleash their artistic talents by creating personalised Dice Towers with Toni from TLC Illustration. A Dice Tower is a fun and practical accessory used in tabletop games to roll dice. Players drop their dice into the tower, which then tumbles and bounces them down a ramp, ensuring a random roll every time while keeping the dice from rolling off the table. This hands-on art activity added a unique touch to their gaming experience and allowed everyone to take home a piece of their adventure. Toni had to make great sacrifices for this activity, as over 12 tubes of Pringles (or "prongles" to some) had to be consumed in advance of the workshop, but she managed it!
Community Spirit
We’re proud to say that this event not only provided a fun and safe environment for our young people but also fostered a sense of community. It was wonderful to see friendships being formed and collaboration in action, as the participants cheered each other on during gameplay and shared in the creative process. Many of our young people were excited to reconnect, not only with their fellow participants but also with Heather, Chris, and Toni. However, they noted how much they missed Leo and Nick, who weren't involved this time but were greatly missed.
As an added delight, many of our creative young people arrived in costume for the second session on Halloween, truly getting into the spirit of the season!
It wasn't just the young people that wanted to get involved in dressing up!
Funding Support
This programme was funded by Reconnecting Runcorn as part of our initiative to develop Hazlehurst Studios and our building at 71 High Street. This support has enabled us to provide enriching experiences like this free of charge to our participants, significantly impacting our community.
Thank You!
A huge thank you to everyone involved—our talented facilitators, the parents and guardians for their support, and of course, our adventurous participants! Your enthusiasm made this event a memorable one.
